New station controversy:
Locals have criticized the reduction in fire cover in the Rothwell area which has seen the opening of a new fire station but with only day crewing staff.
The system known as close crewing employs 14 fire fighters instead of the usual 24, fire crews work a normal day shift and then answer a pager call after 5PM, fire fighters have to drive to the station from home.
Locals have widely criticized the experimental system as causing delays in attendance of fire crews which will put lives in danger.
However local councillors have praised the scheme with one calling it "modernisation".
Rothwell Fire Station
Without access to arrival and turnout times of fire appliances it is impossible to draw a conclusion on the debate of the close call crewing system on the provision of fire crews to house fires in the Rothwell station area, however we have spoken to several residents who are unhappy at the new system.
With two serious house fires requiring people to be rescued in the Rothwell station area, the debate as to how the crewing system impacts on rescues is set to be a fierce argument.
We welcome any comments and will publish those relevent to the discussion.
